Teething August 20, 2009

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve noticed two bumps on the bottom of Jackson’s mouth.  Over the weekend, these bumps turned white and as of this morning, one of these teeth have popped out and you can feel part of the tooth.  This explains why Jackson has as much of his hand in his mouth as he can.  Sometimes, he uses both hands to get extra pressure on those poor little gums.

Two nights this week he has needed some soothing at bedtime which is unusual for him and I think it’s from teething.  Since he started sleeping in his crib at around 6 weeks, we put him to bed awake and let him put himself to sleep.  And since he started rolling over, he doesn’t really like to be held so we have enjoyed these nights of some snuggle time with him.

Last weekend marked Jackson’s half birthday.  It’s fun to look at how far we’ve all come in 6 months!

We went to the doctor yesterday for his 6 month check-up and he weighs 15.12 pounds and is 25.5 inches tall, both being in the 45 percentile.  I can’t remember what the circumference of his head was but it was in the 75 percentile; the doctor noted that he had a nicely shaped head :)

Developmentally, he’s right on track.  He’s been rolling over from both sides for almost 2 months now; sometimes he can sit unassisted for a short time but can still use a little help; he reaches for things and switches items in his hands and is starting to show some signs of separation anxiety; which turns out is a good thing because it means he is becoming aware of his surroundings.  I want him to become aware however, I’m not ready for him to cry when I drop him off at daycare.

Last weekend, we went to Nick’s parents house so we could go swimming.  Jackson didn’t really seem to have an opinion on it either way but it did seem to relax him because he kind of started to fall asleep in the pool :)

We finally got a highchair.  After weeks of trying to find a good used one, I decided that a highchair is something we’re going to use for a long time so we might as well pay the little bit of difference and get the one we want, so we went and got one from Toys R Us (with the help of a very generous gift card from my parents!  Thanks again!!)  Jackson likes to be in his highchair, we can put toys on the tray and he can play while I cook and we eat dinner.  We can eat dinner as a family :)

Jackson’s first birthday party! August 13, 2009

A few weeks ago was little baby Ryan’s  first birthday.  Everytime we would talk about him turning one, I would get all teary eyed and sad, I’m sure Laura wondered why I was getting so upset about her son turning one!  I’m not sure if it was because it made me think of how fast time goes or if it was because I got to see Laura pregnant with Ryan everyday and it’s just so fun to see him grow up!

Ryan had his birthday party at the Discover Center downtown.  This was such a great place to have a party.  After Ryan opened his presents and we had cake, we all went through the Center.  I forgot how much fun this place was and how much there is to see and do.  We will definitely be taking trips there when Jackson is older.

Poor Jackson got worn out from all the excitement!

Now that Jackson is 6 months old, he thinks he’s old enough to give himself a bottle :)

He also likes to get intertwined in his crib
